Community Overview

Self-branded as the Center of American Motorsports, Cabarrus County is rich in NASCAR history.  The county is home to a large racing complex in Concord, including Charlotte Motor Speedway, The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the zMax Dragway.

The county is also home to several major race shops, including Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports and Chip Ganassi Racing in Concord, Stewart-Haas Racing in Kannapolis, and JTG Daughtry Racing and Wood Brothers Racing in Harrisburg.

Windshear, a state of the art windtunnel, opened July 28, 2008 in Concord.  It offers aerodynamic testing facilities to NASCAR and Formula One racing teams.

Cabarrus County is also the home of the Reed Gold Mine, a National Historic Site.  The first gold discovered in the United States was found here in 1799.
